Strong financial support fuels success for Mosman cricketers

20 April 2026

Local developer and builder HELM has renewed its sponsorship of junior cricket in Mosman for a further two seasons. The ongoing financial support has enabled Mosman Cricket Club to increase participation to around 500 boys and girls and maintain annual fees at 2024 levels.

Among the Mosman juniors to go on to represent Australia are Ian Craig, Gordon Rorke, David Colley and Allan Border.
Former Mosman juniors, Allan Border, Leigh Clapham, Barry Hyland, and Greg Davies (who were all members of the Under 21 premiership winning team in 1973-74) watch the club win the Poidevin-Gray competition again in 2025-26.

Mosman Cricket Club President, John Wallace, says the close association with such a generous sponsor as HELM is the envy of amateur sporting associations Sydney-wide.

“The sponsorship helps us pay for clothing, upgrade equipment and facilities, and keeps membership fees far lower than other cricket clubs,” said Mr Wallace. “Our players wear the HELM logo on their shirts with pride, knowing that it is a local company supporting local kids.”
The 2025-26 season was a successful one for Mosman juniors, fielding a record 38 teams. Four of these teams won district premierships, with the Green Shield Under 16 representative side reaching the semi-finals.

At the senior level Mosman won the prestigious Poidevin-Gray Shield (Under 21), and had several players represent NSW at various levels.

Mosman Cricket is the suburb’s only sporting club that competes at a premier level, finishing 2025-26 a credible seventh in the club championship (out of 20 Sydney-wide clubs). To run the club costs more than $500,000 each season. It’s staggering to realise that each new juniors-standard cricket ball is roughly $60, totalling some $40,000 for the season, while a new six-stitcher for seniors is $160 a pop.

Among the club’s off-field achievements in 2025-26 was raising around $200,000 to electrify the dated scoreboard at Allan Border Oval.
